Episode 15 of The Green Route with MAREDI Design is here! Be sure to check it out on your favorite streaming platform, such as Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or by clicking here.
This is a captivating episode where we had the pleasure of speaking with Mallory Solomon, co-founder and CEO of Salam Hello, a Morocco-based rug company. With a clear mission of focusing on sustainable, ethical production, Salam Hello is a company that is preserving the ancient techniques of rug-making by the Amazigh women of Morocco.
In our conversation, Mallory shares some of the various techniques of traditional rug-making and how they vary from one region to another. She explains the importance of the traditions behind the craft and the techniques required to be a rug-weaver, highlighting that it is a skillset passed down through generations of women across the country. Part of her mission is empowering these communities of women in hopes that future generations will see this as a means of independence and as a valued skillset that can provide livable wages for themselves and their families.
Through sustainable practices, such as using local resources, practicing non-toxic dying processes and maintaining the origin of each technique and its production to its indigenous region of Morocco, Salam Hello aims to produce heirloom pieces of the highest quality and craftsmanship. These are the types of companies that we are thrilled to champion as design professionals! Don't miss this episode to hear more from a truly passionate co-founder who values the art of quality and craftsmanship and wants each customer to feel the power of preservation.
And after you listen, don't forget to leave a review and let us know what you think, or share any takeaways that you have. If there are other topics around sustainability that you would like us to explore in future episodes, we would love to hear from you!
See you down the Green Route 😊
