For our 27th episode, we sit down with Maya Crowne and Price Latimer, co-founders of Alkemis Paint, the world’s first wellness paint. The journey began with a simple, frustrating problem: no viable, healthy paint existed for a personal project of Maya’s. Rather than accept the limited (and largely toxic) options on the market, the goal was to build something better, and a serendipitous encounter at a wellness retreat brought the two future cofounders together to set that vision into motion.

Along the way, they uncovered staggering data on the toxicity and harm caused by most conventional paints. Traditional paint is loaded with harmful chemicals, and acrylic (the industry standard) is one of the largest contributors to microplastics polluting our oceans. Determined to create a reset within the industry, Maya and Price set out to invite people to reconsider what they put on their walls.

Together, they built Alkemis Paint on a foundation of natural, mineral-based ingredients instead, proving that a healthier home doesn’t mean sacrificing beauty. Their vibrant, wide-ranging color palette makes the case that wellness and aesthetics were never meant to be at odds.

This conversation is a reminder that the walls around us matter more than we think, and that real innovation often starts with someone refusing to accept “there’s no other way.”
